Exploring Career Options
Shelley Lindner, a 38-year-old resident of rural Eau Claire, had a long and winding road to discovering her true career path. She spent several years trying out different jobs, only to find that none of them truly satisfied her. It wasn’t until she took a leap of faith and pursued a career in the non-profit sector that she finally found her calling. Lindner’s journey is not unique. Many people struggle to find their ideal career, often feeling lost and uncertain about their future.
“I was teaching students how to build sets, and they were teaching me how to be a professional.”
The Unconventional Path to Becoming a Theater Director
Lindner’s journey to becoming a theater director was not a traditional one. She had a background in education and adventure recreation, which may seem unrelated to the world of theater.
(This was her first job and her first paycheck.) She had always been fascinated by the fire safety industry. This interest began after a friend of her family was killed in a fire when she was a child. The fire had a profound impact on her, and she became determined to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Lindner, who had never had any formal training in engineering, had to learn the technical aspects of sprinkler systems through trial and error, self-study, and guidance from experienced professionals. Her determination and work ethic enabled her to rapidly progress through the industry and eventually achieve success. Lindner’s story is an inspiration to many, demonstrating that with perseverance and hard work, individuals can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges and achieve their goals.
