Siouxland high schoolers learn about welding

A Day in the Life of a Welder

The day began with a brief introduction to the world of welding. The students were shown a video showcasing the different types of welding processes, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). The instructors explained the importance of safety protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The instructors emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and organized workspace to prevent accidents. He expressed his desire to work in the trade business because of the job security and stability it provides. “I don’t want to be one of those people who is stuck in a dead-end job with no future,” he said. “I want to be able to provide for myself and my family, and the trade business seems like the way to do that.”
